Technical Leaflet 254: Designing Education Programs That Connect Students to Collections
Collections are one of history museums’ most valuable assets and make history museums unique from other museum experiences. This leaflet outlines strategies for reaching out to students and using collections to engage them in local history. Included are methods for evaluating the standards and curricula of local school systems and using that knowledge to identify what objects in the collection best meet the needs and interests of students and teachers.
This leaflet also addresses how to develop programs around collections that keep the historical object’s safety, learning outcomes for students, and instructional techniques in mind.
