Linking students with people from older generations can create personal connections that make history more relevant. Oral history is one method for pairing students with older members of the community to create an educational and meaningful dialogue. In this Technical Leaflet, Maren Levad and Aleah Vinick of the Minnesota Historical Society share their insights about creating inter-generational oral history programs for high school students and senior citizens.

Using their experiences from the Sharing Community Stories program at MHS, Levad and Vinick provide an overview of how to begin planning an inter-generational oral history program and how to create a timetable for the project. They also address the challenges of developing and implementing a program with helpful charts and questions that will help readers determine the feasibility of creating a similar program.
